Abbie's
Forever Home
Update

Hi Jan,
We had a great trip home with Abbie today. She stayed on my lap the whole time and seems to be very content. She has a very healthy appetite and even tried to finish the younger Shihtzu’s food as well. Okie and Treasure were very interested when they met their new friend. After dinner they laid down on our bed both facing her to try to get to know her a little bit more. They were very welcoming to her so I feel she’s going to fit in just fine with them. All day today I could tell she was tired because she was trying to sleep with her eyes closed but her head still up. After the younger Shihtzu jumped down from our bed, she laid down on the bed with me for a bit. She finally let her head actually rests against the bed instead of trying to hold it up with her eyes closed like she had all day. She realized she was finally home There are a lot of noises in the house that are new to her so that is going to take a little bit of time to get used to. She is super alert to any noise at all. When she hears them she is still a little skittish and wants to bolt to a different room but she will get a used to them with time. In the meantime she doesn’t let me out of her sight. She follows me everywhere and is laying on the sofa next to me now which is exactly what I was hoping for. You’ve done a great job with Abbie. Thank you for adopting her out to us. I have no doubt that she’s going to be a great friend. I’ll keep you updated as to how she’s doing. I hope your other adoption went well today.

Hi Jan,
Abbie is still doing well. Before we went to bed last night I fell sleep on the couch with Abbie watching TV. She nestled in right next to me and according to Gary was snoring right next to me. Once we went to bed, Abbie slept right between us and slept well all through the night. Yesterday I showed her how to come up the stairs steps to go from outside to inside. I didn’t think she paid any attention when I was showing her. This morning I was holding the door open for the others to come in and the next thing I knew she was making an attempt to come up the steps. She made it all the way to the top with no trouble. The next time I let her out I went to the top of the steps to again hold the door and she came blasting up the steps like she has been doing steps forever. She’s a fast learner! This morning we sat on the living room on the floor with all of the toys. She actually went up to about four toys and started playing with them. She puts them in her mouth and whips them as fast as she can. She even went after a few toys that I tossed towards Okie. I couldn’t believe she was that interested in toys. Wow! Jan she’s doing great! She still not real fond of getting picked up yet. She gets real squirmy and extends like a straight board. After she gets picked up she gets lots of petting so I’m sure as she gains more trust in us she will get more comfortable when we pick her up. Anyways, have a great Sunday and I’ll let you know how she’s doing more later.
