Maggie's Forever Home Update

Maggie's
Forever Home
Update

March 25, 2017
Hi, Jan,
Well, not too much to update. Maggie is getting a little more used to all the traffic and people around here. We even had a plumber come in yesterday to do some repairs, she barked once, and then just followed him around and watched him. Now, the thing with my daughter....we just can put our finger on it. She'll sit with her on the chair; she'll play with her; loves to sit by her when she's eating, but she insists on barking at her everytime she walks into the room. We're thinking maybe Leigh reminds her of someone that hurt her. And, she will not let her take her out. She let her do it once or twice, but the last time, she freaked out. But, it was dark. That brings a question to mind. It appears she has trouble seeing in the dark. I took her out Thrusday night, that was garbage night, and she saw a pile of garbage bags and barked and barked at it, like it was a person or something. The next moring, we went out, she looked at the garbage bags and didn't make a sound. We've noticed that with other things when she's out in the dark. I don't know if you ever noticed it as you didn't really walk her, bu, I thought I'd ask. Other than that, she is a love and it's quite obvious she's 'my dog'.....it is so cool to be so loved by an adorable little creature like her. Hope this finds you well. Talk soon.
Hugs to from Maggie and me....

Good morning, Jan
Well....we all slept in. It was a long night with Memmy playing Snoopy. She navigated the stairs going up and spent the night with her head on Dennis and then on me. She really is interested in the cat, so, she was on alert. She finally settled down and went to sleep. I'm sure things will settle down once she gets used to it. And, I know she misses you. She is so lovely. So, we are beginning to see the signs that she has to go. So, as soon as I got up, we went out for our morning walk. She's getting quite good on the leash already. We had a retractable one here. So, out the door we went, and she did BOTH her businesses. She's a really smart girl. Came back in, had breakfast and pills....played with a toy for a while....now, she's staring at me want me to get off my butt and play some more. I'm thinking she's not going to take a nap right away. Just love her. I know you miss her and doing your 'job' has got to be hard for you...especially with this little girl. You have no idea how happy she's already made us. It's like our family and our home is complete. Like, she's always been here. That's what my daughter said when she saw the picture of the 3 of us. She can't wait to come up and meet her. Our other Scottie and her were joined at the hip. I'm expecting the same. And, my son is beside himself because he won't get to meet here til March. And, my brother and Dennis' kids. She's going to have a lot of love. But, yes, we will be very slow with it. So, that's my morning check in. I'll keep you posted on you lovely, little girl. You did an amazing job with giving her her life back.
Hugs,
Jo

Hi, Jan,
Nothing really new to report. Mommy is just as lovable as ever. She still is having accidents. I'm thinking she's thinking it's a pee pad. I almost got some, but, I really want her to get away from using something in doors. She has started coming to get us when she poops. That's a good thing. I have an appointment with our vet next Thursday....just a meet and greet....thought it would be good to take her there when no one is going to poke her or anything...just be nice. LOL. I'll let you know how that goes. And, she's getting me adjusted to her 6:00AM...got to work on that...I'm dragging a little, but she is so worth it. She's still trying to play with the cat, but Phoebe is not having anyone of it. They just treat each other respect. Sometimes nap next to each other, but, that is sort of how Phoebe was with our other Scottie....except it was Phoebe following Meggie around...this time, it's Memmy following Phoebe around. It's really cute. I'll keep you posted when we have any break throughs. I don't want to keep bothering you everyday. Have a great day,
Memmy's Mommy
BTW - we keep calling her Meggie....so, we tried changing it to Maggie...she still comes...heck, she comes when I call Phoebe. Pretty funny. Love that little girl.

Good morning, Jan,
Needed to share: yesterday our Little Missy only had 1 and a half accidents. She told me every time she needed to poo. Getting so good on the leash. But, peeing is still a challenge. She had one accident yesterday. The 1/2 was last night. I try to take her out at 10:00PM, but, I was watching a show, so it was 10:07. I put my coat on to go out and she squatted right in front of me. Like she couldn't hold it. So, Dennis went and got some pee pads yesterday. We put them down and showed her where they were when we went to bed. One in front of the door we use to take her out. And, one by the stairs where I put on my boots. So, this morning, we got up, came downstairs. Got my coat on, and she squatted and peed...and not on the pee pads. On the carpet behind my computer chair. Maybe I need to put one there. LOL Are there any secrets? We showed her where they were, had her smell them (supposed to be some magic attraction going on there, the brand name is Nature's Miracle. They're supposed to be really good.) Other than that, she has destroyed every toy that we had from Meggie. The others should arrive today along with her new bed. Hopefully they will survive those jaws. I read reviews and they were very helpful. Hope all is well with you. It's been snowing on and off all morning. Right now it's off.
Hugs to you and yours,
Jo

Good morning, Jan... Just thought I'd give you an update on our amazing girl. She is doing so well on the leash and she is actually letting us know when she needs to go outside, now. That is so great. Plus, I actually found her a toy that has lasted a whole day so far. And, she loves it and plays with it a lot. Some of her other toys still hasn't arrived nor has her new bed. But, I'm expecting them any day. She and Phoebe are getting along much better. They play a game. Phoebe drinks her water, and she drinks Phoebe's water. Phoebe sleeps on her blanket and she climbs in the chair or the end of the couch that she knows Phoebe likes. It's really fun to watch. She's also getting used to Dennis taking her out. I don't know if I had mentioned that before, but, I was the only one she would let take her out. She'd balk when Dennis tried. I had to escort her to the door and hook her to the leash and literally push her out the door so she's go with him and give my back a break. So, yesterday, I left the two of them alone for 5 hours. Had some errands to run and a mani/pedi. All went well. As a matter of fact, last night she actually went to him to let us know she had to go out. I still walk her to the door and hook up the leash, but she's more than willing to go out. Making progress everyday. Dennis says she's 'my' dog...and I'm more than happy with that. She follows me everywhere. Sits by the chair when I'm on the computer. I also got her a new harness. I'll send you a pic when I can get a good a picture of her. Whenever I try, she decides she needs to jump up on the couch and attach me with me kisses. I've got to sneak up on her. Tomorrow is her meet and greet with our vet. I'll let you know how that goes. He's a great guy. Can't wait for them to meet. Also, picked up her new 3 year license yesterday. That was one of my many errands. Hope this finds you doing well. Have a great day.
Hugs,
Jo

Good morning, Jan,
Well, not too much new, BUT, she is getting long with Dennis pretty well lately. As a matter of fact, she's letting him take her out without too much of snit. Sometimes I have to escort her to the door, but she's getting better every day. I've been a tad under the weather...her hours and are getting to me...she slept in until 6:30 this morning....but, I'll tell you, this old body needs more sleep. LOL. Oh, I gave her the extra belly rubs...she was very appreciative. Well, that's all for now....just that we are so blessed to have this little girl in our lives. She really enjoys barking at our neighbor when he's out the same time we are. I haven't walked her over there yet, thought I'd just let her get used to environment. It's pretty quiet up here now. There are only 3 of us out of the 6 condos that are year round. The other 3 are vacationers...one couple is from Maryland, one from Illinois and the other from Indiana. The one couple has 2 very large dogs, so, I'm interested to see how that goes. They probably won't be up until the spring or maybe even the summer. Hope this is finding you all healthy and happy. Talk soon
Hugs,
Jo

Hi, Jan,
Well...our little girl keeps getting better and better. There hasn't been an accident in days (knock on wood). She lets us know when she needs to go out. AND, she's been waking up around 6 out 6:30, so I take her out and come back home and get back into bed. She's right with me....than, we've been getting up around 8 or 8:30. THIS morning was a new milestone. She and I stay up and watch TV late....we usually snooze. Last night we both woke up at 2:00AM. I took her out and off to bed we went. This morning she woke up around 6. Figured we do the same thing. Out then back to bed. She surprised me. She just stretched rolled around and cuddled up to me and went back to sleep. Didn't get up until about 8:30. Which is great for me. So, her feeding schedule is now 9:00AM and 5:00PM, which works out great. She is such a delight...love her to pieces. And, we actually have some sun today. Hope this finds you doing well.
Talk soon...

Good morning, Jan,
Just a note to let you know our girl is getting better and better. She and Dennis are good buddies now and even the cat is giving in. She is such a sweetie. Her leg seems to be giving her issues, but, with the walks, she's probably being more active than usual. Plus, she LOVES chasing things. She took off after a squirrel this morning....good thing I had a tight hold of that leash. We have even ventured out for a couple of hours and have come home to clean house and very happy dog. She is so cute....she jumps all over me....just makes you feel great to see that happy dog cause you're finally home. I sure it seems like forever to her. AND, she is sleeping in. The earliest she's gotten me up this past week has been 7:30. Settling in fine. I can't even remember what life was like with that cute little face waking me up in the morning. And, her yawns...just crack me up...she sounds like pup wolf practicing howling. She gets lots of belly rubs, but, the vet said I should slow down on the ball throwing when her hip is bothering her...easier said than done. She's a ball of energy. Oh, one question, how often do you advise having her groomed? Dennis mentioned that he thought her nails were a little long. We have a veterinarian in Sutton's Bay (not our vet), that offers full service grooming for all breeds. I sure don't want to take her to PetSmart and the woman that used to groom Meggie has left the area. But, I'd like to schedule an appointment. Just don't want to do it too soon. Probably want to do it before we head downstate next month. Hope this is finding you well and more puppies finding forever homes.
Take care of you and yours...
Hugs,
Jo

Hi, Jan,
Thanks for the info. We've definitely slowed her down. Chasing leaves is a new pastime, too. It's been fairly warm but windy here and the leaves are sooooo entertaining.Took her out for a walk this morning before breakfast and she got to chase a squirrel, bark at the crows, and scare up some deer. A pretty full morning for sure. Our baby girl sends bunches of Scottie 'kisses' your way. I hope your little fur babies that have applications find their homes soon.

Good Afternoon, Jan,
Well...things are going well. She just gets cuter and smarter everyday. And, she is definitely running the household. I love the way I get treated when I'm gone for a little while. All kisses and jumps and hugs. Unconditional love. Oh, we have a new thing we've been doing the past week. Whenever I go upstairs to take my shower, before I can actually take my shower or even get ready to take my shower, she hops on the bed and we have to have a wrestling match. Lots of kisses and belly rubs and rolling around. She is just so much fun. We had some sun today and no rain or snow. She still loves her walks, but, she is limping a bit. I've got an appointment with the vet next Monday just to see if there is anything else we can do to ease her pain. She love to play, but, as you say, we have to limit it. Which. she is NOT happy about. Also, going to make an appointment with groomer tomorrow. We'll probably be heading south around the 15th or 16th of March. Did I tell you Dennis bought a bigger vehicle. He figured Maggie need more room for her and her stuff. I'm not kidding. He bought a Chrysler Pacifica. He said my Jeep was too small and so was his charger. He's too cute. Yes, she's got him wrapped around her little paw.
Hope this finds you doing well and maybe enjoying some sun.
Talk soon....

Jo

Good morning, Jan,
Running a day late. Busy long day yesterday and I just collapsed last night. Everything is great. Our little girl is totally house-trained. She comes and gets us and lets us know she needs to go out. And, if we do go out, she waits til we get home. She's such a good girl. Oh, and her favorite toy...a red Kong ball. She'd play with that all day......she even brings it to bed with her. We aren't taking her to the vet today. I got a call from my vet last night and he said he wanted to set up an appointment to extra her hips before we bring her in. Taking her in today wouldn't really do anything. So, when we return from down state, we're going to drop her off and he's going x-ray her hips. He wants to see it up close and personal. In the meantime, the baby aspirins haven't been really doing anything, so he's going to give us a little stronger med that will hopefully help take the edge off. She can be so hard to slow down...the little girl has a ton of energy. I love the way she hops around like a bunny in the snow. Oh, we have another new ritual. At night when I'm watching TV, Maggie sleeps on the couch behind me. I think I told you that. But, as it gets later, she has to come down and lay right behind me and plant her butt on my shoulder for a while. I think she likes the closeness. She makes me feel so loved. We have a little snow today...not sure if we're going to get more. But, it is March. She's getting groomed on Wednesday and we're heading downstate Thursday. I'm wondering how she's going to react. It's so peaceful here. Den's condo downstate is a rather busy place. There's always people out and about. So, it ought to be interesting.
Hope this find you well and happy.
Hugs,
Jo

Hi, Jan,
Maggie update: Goin to the groomer was great. She took to Jacqueline right away. They only took and hour and while she was there, they never crate them. She got to play with balls and big dogs. It was like a play date for her. She didn't even flinch when we left her there. They did a super job, too. We will definitely be taking her there even if it's just for her bath and nails. My vet iis the one that recommmended them to us. The ride down was uneventful. She whined a little when we put her in the carry all...but, laid down and took a nap. She got antsy and whiny about 2/5 hours into the trip, so, we stopped at a rest area. She had a great time sniffing all the smells. She's such a trip. So, back into the carrier, a little whine, and she was good for the rest of the trip. So, arriving at the condo...sher had all kinds of new things to look at, new sounds, new sights. Ran all over the house. One thing I forget to tell you, we are close to an expressway and there is always car noises. Sirens. or something. She got used to that pretty well. She still has a few issues when she sees people or other dogs, but, she's getting better every day. She and my daughter haven't bonded yet. We can't figure it out. She barks at her all the time. Pretty funny. They've been having some intereting encounters. Once when Leigh took her out, when she brought her back in, Maggie didn't want her detach the leash. So, they ran around in circles in the house while Leigh tried to catch Maggie to undo the leash. Well, they are definitely keeping me entertained. So, that's it for now....I'll keep you posted.
Hope this finds you and yours doing well and more of your little fur babies finding forever homes.
Hugs,
Jo

Good morning, Jan.
Still down state, Really, really busy. Sold my condo down here, so I am constantly on the go. Which has given Maggie plenty of opportunities to welcome me home properly. What a love. So, she's had all kinds of adventures. People constantly, squirrels, even had company. And, she was a perfect lady. Barked a couple of time, but welcomed my step-duaghter, her husband, and her daughter right in. Played. Enjoyed the treats. Becoming very social. She barely even barks at people anymore, unless, of coure, they have a dog with them. Then, that's another story. This has to be a quick note as I am totally swamped this morning, but, I didn't want you to think anything was wrong. It's just be trying to go into 5 directions at the same time. LOL. Maggie says she is sending you virtual kisses and misses you, but, her new Mommy and Daddy are taking very good care of her. Her new sister, Phoebe the Cat, and she still aren't best of buddies, but, they're working on in. And, Mommy's daughter, she's pretty cool but I'm not going to let her know I think that yet. She's too much fun messing with. Hugs and doggie-kissies. Well, Maggie just had to add her two cents. Hopefully, we'll be heading home before the end of this week. Hope all is well in Peke-A-Tzu land and you and yours are doing well. Hugs,
Jo

Hi, Jan...
Sorry I'm late...busy day....Maggie sends you hugs and licks and Happy Mother's Day. Hope you had a great day. My daughter is up here for a few days, so, we had a busy day. Plus, she's a tad under the weather. Hubby has a bad knee. An interesting day to say the least. Maggie is treating my daughter a little better. She still has issues with her occasionally. We just haven't been able to figure it out. Sometimes she barks at her. Other times, she curls up on the ottoman at her feet. Plays ball like crazy. Still won't let her touch the leash. But, she's only been here a few days. Maggie is enjoying the weather and the walks. We got her a lead that we have anchored to our deck so she can go out on her own when she wants to. Sometimes, she just goes out and looks at the woods and animals and the birds and just chills. Sometimes, she goes out and does her business and comes back in. But, it doesn't take the place of her many walks. Chasing the deer and turkeys. Have to keep a tight hold on that leash. She's a strong little girl. And, playing with her favorite red ball. She actually brings the ball back to us now so we don't have to throw and be the one to fetch. Luckily, she is a very smart girl and learns very fast. She also knows who the boss of the house is. HER!!! Love her to pieces. Going to pick up her heart worm tablets today and Wednesday: a bath and nail trimming. Friday: another application of her tick meds.
Hope all is going well with you and yours and more people are rescuing. This is a great time of the year to do it!!!
Hugs,

Hi, Jan,
Our girl, she's amazing. I can't even remember when she wasn't here telling us who the boss is. We have our daily routines down. And, she lets me know if it's past feeding time. We're actually understanding "Maggie Speak". We know when the bark means play with me (her favorite toy in the world is the Red Kong ball...she sometimes sleeps with it.). We know when she has to GOOOOOOOO outside, now, Mom. She's just simply amazing. She bring the ball all the way back to us. Is great on the leash. She even likes to go out on the deck. We rigged a lead up so she can go out and loll in the son, watch the critters, or just go outside for a quick pee. LOL. She is even getting her barking at people under control. Does a few 'I'm Maggie barks', then basically ignores us. She still has some issues with big dogs. A couple of our neighbors (they're not here full time), have large dogs. She's not really sure what to think. I'm just thankful there dogs are older and are so well disciplined. They just look at her, let her sniff, and that's it. What's really funny, whenever we walk passed the driveway where the big dog is, even those she's not there, Maggie has to give out a little grown. Oh, yeh, just remembered. Maggie LOVES walking in the rain now. Lucky us. But, she does take care of business. Our road up to our house is a hill, the rain runs down it and makes bubbles. Maggie love to bite at them. Our other Scottie did also. Scottish Terriers and bubbles, who knew? AND, some really good news. Her leg seems to be doing very well. Our vet couldn't find any trace of the disease. She limps occasionally in the morning, but, once she's up and about, you wouldn't even know there was anything wrong with her. She's still taking the pills you recommended (NuVet) and taking Dasiquin/Coseqin. Seems to help. Hope this finds you well and more doggies finding forever homes. Have a great Fourth of July. It's supposed to be a beautiful day.
Love, hugs and licks from Maggie...

Hi, Jan,
So sorry it's been so long. It's been a busy, busy summer. A lot go things going on, I apologize. I wasn't sure if you wanted me to keep you up to date as you never contacted me, but, I was thinking about it and thought I just write a line or two. Attached are some pictures of our wonderful girl. You have no idea how much love and fun she has brought to our family. There's not a day that goes by that I don't feel thankful for her. She's got to be one of the smartest dogs I've been around. She fetches her ball now. Brings right straight back to us. Bonds with people. Is amazing on the leash...and a great 'watch' dog. Oh, as for the rain...she freaking loves it. It's hard to get her back in. I can hardly wait until there's a lot of snow. I've attached a few pics. I'll send a few more another time when she's got on her 'new' harness. I keep buying her stuff. And I always have to have a red ball waiting in the wings for her. Heaven help us if we should run out. And, she sure can keep us laughing when she starts rolling around on the ball. She is doing very, very well. She love to cuddle at night. Just plasters herself up against me or Dennis. Or somehow manages to lay so she can be touching both of us at the same time. Sometimes she'll lay next to me and put her paw on me like it's a hand. She's so loving, so smart. And, even the hair on her nose that was so bare has grown in. As for her hip, it appears she has 'Scottie paw' which a lot of Scottish Terriers get. She limps some times, but not often. And, when we're playing catch and she's tearing through the house, there's not limp in sight. And, sje is so fast, it's scary. She wakes me up every morning by getting right in my face and kissing me. Then she's gets down on the floor and stretches while she waits for me to get moving and gives out with the Scottish Terrier 'aroooooo'!!! Her inner time clock is great. Out of bed at 7:40. Back in at 8, Climb in bed until 8"30, then the day starts. Full of love and fun. So, I'll let you go, hope this finds you well and happy.
Take care.
Hugs,
Jo

Hi, Jan,
Happy New Year to you and yours. I've been trying to download new pics of Maggie and a video, but for some reason, I can't get them to load from my phone to my computer. So, I'll just send you this update and see what I can do with pictures. Usually when I sync them to my computer, I don't have a problem, but for some reason, this time it didn't work. I'll see if I can post them to your FB page. Anyway, our Maggie is doing great!!! I've got to say she is one of the smartest dogs I've ever seen. Every day is another surprise. I actually think she understand human talk. Seriously!! We tell her something once, and she knows what it is the next time we use it. Like when I first asked her if she wanted to go out on the deck (it's been really cold and snowy here so the deck is a quick option.) If she wants to go to the deck, she runs over there, if not, she'll run to the front door. If she just wants to play, she'll bark sharply and run and get her precious red ball. She got her new one this morning...I think it's red ball #5. She loves them and they last a really long time. I hope I can get that video to you of her running and chasing the ball when Dennis or I throw it for her. She's wicked fast. She really loves the snow, too. Plus, she knows when she comes in she's going to have a warm towel waiting for her and then, of course, her treat. The warm towel melts that snow and warms her little body. She just loves to be cuddled. She's really taken over our bed...she sometimes just stretches out so she can be touching both of us. Sometime she'll just snuggle up in the crook of my legs (I'm a side sleeping), puts her head on me, and snoozes. Sometimes, she'll do that to Dennis. AND, if she should beat me to bed, by the time I've brushed my teeth and come to bed, she's on my side and gives me that look. Just melts my heart. She brings us such joy. There's not a day that goes by that she doesn't make us laugh or surprise us with something new. She is truly an amazing girl. Dennis mentions 'rescue' occasionally and laughs. She rescued us. And, that's the truth. I don't know what we ever did without her. But, I know, I don't want to ever lose this little girl. She is truly a gift. Hope this finds you and yours healthy and happy and all your little rescues. Hopefully, 2018 will be a good year for all.
Hugs,
Maggie and Jo
